Mod. half calf, marbled covers.
First edition (in two parts) on the life and generalship of Frederic Henry of Nassau, Dutch Stadtholder from 1625-1647. It relates the events that took place during his government, incl. the conquest of Northern Brazil. Engr. ill.: allegoric title by van Meurs, a portrait after G. van Honthorst, 33 double-page plates (some folding) showing views, military scenes or city plans of "Laach", "Groll", "Bergen op Zoom en Steenbergen", "Wesel", "Thienen", "Sas van Gent", etc. The large folding plate (part 2, p. 215) depicting Frederick Hendrick's funeral procession is missing. Incomplete copy of the first edition of "Den Nassauschen Lauren-crans" by Jan Orlers (1570-1646) on the Dutch military exploits on land and sea by Maurits of Orange (1567-1625). It comprises the frontispiece after J. de Gheyn, the coat of arms and portrait by J. Matham of prince Maurits, but it lacks all siege plans.
