4to: [8]-398-[22] pp. (browning, a few min. spots, sm. repair to 4 pl., sm. defects on front.).

Contemp. overl. vellum, covers with central gilt monogram and arms, flat spine titled in ink, red sp. edges. Good copy.

First edition of this detailed history and description of the present state of Amsterdam, by P. von Zesen (Priorau 1619-1689 Hamburg). After he moved to Amsterdam, the German poet became fascinated by the history, the buildings and the expansion of the thriving metropolis. It was the city government who commissioned him to make this first walking guide through Amsterdam. Engr. ill.: allegoric front., 1 pl. in text and 72 nice folding plates, being plans and mostly views of civil, ecclesiastical and manufactural buildings. Printed folding "Erinnerung an den Buchbinder" in fine. Woodcut Amsterdam arms on title and in text.
