Beauty can often be found in simplicity, as can be seen in this sober drawing by the Ghent artist Maurice Langaskens (1881-1946). The linear design of a plow generates a geometrical grid by which the object of manual labour can be elevated far beyond its utilitary function, only to become an object of modern art and a symbol of agriculture.
