Publ. half beige linen, grey paper boards, lettered label on front cover, flat spine.
Delicately illustrated throughout by Pickford Waller. Printed in capitals. Ed. limited to 300 copies (n. 242).
The Pear Tree Press was founded in 1899 by James Guthrie (1845-1952), artist, poet and typographer, at Pear Tree Cottage (Ingrave, Essex). It was later moved to Shorne, South Haring and Flansham. It is one of the oldest private presses. Guthrie purchased the press on which William Morris printed his Chaucer type to print his own works. The earliest of Guthrie's endeavours on the other hand were printed at the Old Bourne Press.
