8vo: [30 (of 32 i.e. without the 2 bl.)]-851-[12] pp. (title def. and underlaid, some upper corners frayed, lower inner corners of last few quires affected to gone, dampstaining throughout, some sm. holes in blank margins of last few corners gradually growing and moving towards the printed surface, last pp. underl.).
19th-c. vellum, flat spine, red leather title label.
Lyon edition (reprint of the 1549 ed.) and attractive handy format of this famous Renaissance herbarium by Fuchs. Ill. with Arnoullet's sea-horse device on title, a woodcut portrait of the author and over 500 miniature botanical woodcuts of plants with their names in Greek, Latin, German and French. The ill. are reduced versions of the woodcuts in the folio ed. publ. by Isingrin in Basel which were commissioned from Clément Boussy by Arnoullet in 1547 and first appeared in his 1549 Lyon ed.
