Lot description

Various sizes, various techniques.

Munting, A. - 10 hand-coloured engr. on laid paper by the Dutch botanist A. Munting (1626-1683). Extracted from “Naauwkeurige beschryving der aardgewassen, waar in de veelerley aart en bijzondere eigenschappen der boomen, heesters, kruyden, bloemen [...]". (Utrecht and Leiden: Pieter vander Aa and Francois Halma, 1696). Fascinating pl. in their way they feature the flowers on a disproportionally large scale, against idyllic landscape backgrounds. - De Chastillon, L. - 3 engr. extracted from Dionys Dodart’s (1634-1707) “Estampes pour servir à l'Histoire des plantes” published between 1685 and 1691. - 30 engr. by Bouquet after P.J.F. Turpin and Poiteau, printed by Langlois for Aimé Bonpland and Alexander von Humboldt's "Voyage de Humboldt et Bonpland" (23 parts, 1805-1834). - 11 engr. by and after P.J.F. Turpin, printed by Langlois. - 51 chromolithographs engraved by Hütz, Severeyns, Sixtus, Vangenk, after Arckenhausen, Kent, Latour, Sixtus, and printed by Simonau. Extracted from Karl Ludwig Blume’s “Flora Javae” (10 parts, Brussels, J. Frank, 1828-1851). This magnificent work is the only major flora work on the Dutch East Indies of the 19th century, continuing Rumpf's pioneering work. - Blackwell, E. - The Medlar Tree. Hand-coloured engr. 1737. Plate 154 extracted from Blackwell’s "A Curious Herbal, containing five hundred cuts of the most useful plants which are now used in the practice of Physick....”, based upon observation in the Chelsea Physic Garden in London. - 37 engr. after J.P. Redouté, engr. by Brenet, Gabrielle, Janinet, Moret and Mixelle l’ainé, some from Rousseau's "Traité des arbres et arbustes". - 4 pl. of birds by Claude Fessard after Jn. Lebrecht Reinold and printed by Langlois from François Levaillant's "Histoire naturelle des oiseaux d'Afrique" (1799). - 2 pl. engr. by Chaponnier and Ruotte from Van Spaendonck's "Fleurs dessinées d`après nature" (Paris, Van Spaendonck, 1799-1801). - and several pl. by F.W. Smith, E. Taillant, after Bessa, A. Riocreux and others.
