2 parts in 1 vol., folio: [6]-388, 88 ff. (1st part: lacks of paper on soiled title, prelim. ff. frayed; 2nd part: p. 88 frayed & loose, ff. 89-93 (part of Apocalypse & Table) in xerox copy, last f. lacking; light marg. dampstaining and minor soiling throughout).

Contemp. blind-ruled calf over wood, spine with 5 raised bands, metal catches and corner pieces (head & tail expertly repaired, joints split, some def. on covers, clasps gone).

Rare and important major French Bible. "New version, ostensibly translated from the Louvain Latin Bible of 1547, but also incorporating the translations of other French versions [...]. The translation was accomplished by Nicolas de Leuze, assisted by François de Larben, under the supervision of Pierre de Corte" (Chambers). Woodcuts: half-page ill. on title (2 holes), half-page ill. (Creation) on a1r, 3 full-page ill. (1 partly cut out and rebound) and more than 100 ill. in text.
