Etching and drypoint, 37,0 x 31,1 cm, laid paper, Spanish title in lower margin, followed by signature and date: "Pintura de D. Diego Velazquez, del tamaño del natural, en el R(ea)l Palacio de Madrid, dibujada y grabada por D. Fran(cis)co Goya, Pintor. Año de 1778." (few spots, very light stain at right, sm. tear at left edge).

Hinged at upper edges, under passe-partout. Good (sl. later?) impression with wide margins. Good condition. A fine piece of Spanish art history.

From a series by Goya (1746-1828) after paintings by Velázquez (1599-1660) at the time in the Royal Palace in Madrid. The portrait of Philip IV (1605-1665), King of Spain, is now in the Prado (inv. P001178).
