Very rare, only published ed., "à compte d'auteur", Pierre Joseph Buc'hoz (1731-1807). It includes 38 fine hand-coloured engr. of both wild and domestic animals, all with elaborate text about their habitats, habits and their physiognomy. The pl. are somewhat in the style of Buffon, but the text is entirely different, clearly of an independently crafted work. Conlon states that the work was published in 1776. Nissen lists, under Buc'hoz's "Les dons merveilleux et diversement coloriés de la nature dans le règne animal" (1782), a plate section 173-204 [i.e. 32 plates] "Quadrupèdes de France" which may be a partial re-issue.
