Lot description
Paris, Bance ainé, 1829
4to: [4]-60 pp.; 55 pl. (some foxing).
Contemp. quarter calf over marbled boards, gilt-orn. flat spine (spine rebacked).
A rare, illustrated description of the mammals in the "Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle" in Paris. This is the second ed. (first: 1808, with only 45 pl.). The first unnumbered engr. is a fine and artistically arranged comparative overview of the principal mammalian groups. It is not clear which Huet is meant by "Huet" in the title; it could be either Nicolas le jeune or his father, Jean-Baptiste le vieux. According to Nissen, Le Blanc and Nagler Künstlerlexikon the work is by Nicolas Huet.
