2 vol., 4to: portrait-[6]-1/356, 357/866-[46] pp.; 14 pl. (spotting, marg. wormtrack or wormholes in vol. I, light marg. dampstaining and stain in vol. II).

Contemp. marbled calf, gilt orn. spines with raised bands, red edges (sm. stains, sl. traces of use). Good copy.

First French edition by François de La Pillonnière (for vol. I) of the famous history of England by Burnet (1643-1715), Scottish philosopher and historian, Bishop of Salisbury. Illustrated with 15 engr. portraits by B. Picart representing i.a. the author, Cromwell, James I (after A. Van Dyck), Algernoon Sidney and Mary I. The first edition in English was published in 1724.
