8vo: [8]-311 pp. (sm. margin. stains on the first lvs, some microscopic wormholes skilfully restored).

Brown calf signed Ch. De Samblanx, boards with blind roll set with gilt fillets, blocked in blind with Christ as Salvator Mundi and other figures, roll repeated up and down, the whole surrounded by gilt fillets, flat spine decorated with the same blind roll set with gilt fillets, gilt title and date, gilt roll on the cuts and turn-ins, inside gilt dent., marbled endpapers, a.e.g. (spine sl. faded). Under marbled paper slip case. Nice copy.

Reedition (1st ed.: "Paradoxe que les adversitez sont plus nécessaires que les prospéritez", La Rochelle, Haultin, 1588) of this collection of sonnets, canticles, odes and other verse pieces by Odet de La Noue (ca. 1560-1618), Lord of Téligny, French officer, diplomat and poet. He was the son of the famous Huguenot captain François de La Noue, called Bras-de-Fer. The edition was established by Joseph du Chesne (1544-1609), Lord of La Violette, who dedicated it to Madame de La Noue, née Marie de Lannoy.
