Contemp. green leather, gilt border on covers, gilt orn. flat spines, red leather title labels, gilt sides and gilt inside dentelles (some min. rubbing). Nice set.

New ed. of the translation (1st Engl. ed.: 1724), correcting the errors of the Parisian ed. (1785), enriched with notes on plant traits and based on the 8th English edition. Volume I contains a note on this edition, a bio-bibliography of Miller, a note from the editor and the author, a list of bibliographies, an explanation of plates, etc.; vol. 8 contains a catalogue of plants, an English dictionary and a Gardeners Calendar. Ill. with an engr. front. and 25 engr. full-page pl. The botanist Miller (1691-1771) was chief gardener at the Chelsea Physic Garden from 1722 till his death and cultivated many plants for the 1st time in England. He was reluctant to use Linnaeus' classification but nevertheless adopted this system in the 8th edition of "The Gardener Dictionary" in 1768. Text in 2 col.
