Procession at Brèche de Roland.

A procession in the snow in the glaciers near the Brèche de Roland, i.e. a natural gap in the cliffs of the Hautes-Pyrénées, near the Cirque de Gavarnie on the border between France and Spain. The third and fourth men from the right seem to be carrying a statue, perhaps to be placed in a niche in the mountain. Such mountain scenes in the snow enjoyed great popularity during the first half of the 19th century.
