Lot description

Ca. 1940-1950

431 silver prints, some posterior prints, some in colour, mostly between 7 x 7 and 14 x 14 cm or 6 x 9 and 13 x 18 cm, pasted in.

Oblong 4to-size album (cardboard covers def.).

Interesting album of the Upemba National Park, a large national park in Hout-Lomami, Lualaba Province & Haut-Katanga Province of the southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, probably assembled by the manager of the park. The park was first established in 1939 and was then the largest park in Africa. As with much of the wildlife of the region, the park continues to be threatened by the activities of poachers, pollution, and the activities of refugees and the military.
Our album contains
a variety of photos showing the fauna, flora and the management of the park: a boy with a gigantic mushroom, a baby marmot, a campsite, an elephant shrew (a small, quadrupedal, insectivorous mammal), several insects, the forest, a handmade raft, a monkey, a group of non-native men (the manager?), a collection of animal traps, field excursions and field work, dead animals (catched by traps ?), local cabins, a scorpion, flowers, park rangers, etc. At the end a couple of family photos of a white household.
