Treatise on the cavalry by the French officer Joly (1719-1780), with a French translation of Xenophons "Hipparchus". 1st ed. of the "Mémoire sur la guerre". The two first "mémoires" and the translation of Xenophon's treatise were first publ. in the "Mémoires de l'Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres" (vol. 41, 1780). Woodcut royal arms on title. Inset pasted on the imprint ("Et se trouve à Paris, Chez Moutard").
