New edition (1st ed.: 1688) of this successful treatise on the proportional compass, in use for over a century. Ill. with 2 pl. by Chapotot and numerous figures in text. The French mathematician Ozanam (1640-1717) was first directed by his family to the priesthood, but when his father died he was able to leave and to pursue his passion for science and mathematics.
