Probably a Dutch binding: old embossed calf over wood, bevelled edges, gilt-titled spine with 5 raised bands, tooled metal central and corner-pieces, metal joint strip, marbled endpapers (expertly rebacked and repaired, sl. rubbed). Good copy.

Dutch trsl. of the Lutheran Zürcher Bible of 1531 and the 1st Dutch Bible to contain the "Comma Johanneum" (1 Joh. 5:7). Jacob van Liesvelt was beheaded in Antwerp in 1545 after having published again a Luther Bible in 1542. Title in red and black within elaborate woodcut border. 114 woodcuts and a few woodcut tail pieces. Woodcut mark at the end. Printed in 2 col., in gothic type.
