First French translation attributed to Desmonceaux de Villeneuve of the history of the Kingdom of Naples. Illustrated with the author's portrait in frontispiece, 1 plate of medals, some ill. in text and 4 identical vignettes on titles. Giannone (1676-1748), historian and philosopher, devoted 20 years to the composition of his "Storia civile del regno di Napoli" (1st ed.: 1723). He opposed the papal influence in Naples and as a result was imprisoned for 12 years until his death.
