15 vol., folio (occasional pp. slightly browned and pl. sl. toned, occ. foxing, light traces of mold on some pl., some marginal tears or holes, rarely with loss of paper and a few repaired or strengthened (e.g. pp. 3-6 vol. 6; pl. 241 vol. 13), exceptionally some borders with water damage, marg. wormholes at the end of vol. 2). Good inside condition.

Cont. mottled calf, covers bordered with a double gilt fillet and a blind roll-stamp (for vol. 1-10), gilt orn. spine on raised bands, red sprinkled edges (repairs, joints split, some damages or parts missing, occ. foxing on endpapers).

First edition of this work on classical archaeology by B. de Montfaucon (1655-1741), Benedictine of the Congregation of Saint-Maur and one of the founders of modern archaeology. Illustrated with 10 vignettes and 5 fleurons on titles, the portrait of J. Audran after N. Largillière, 10 headpieces and 1.391 plates (some missing engr. i.a. pl. 90 in vol. 9 and pl. 10 in vol. 13), some on double pages (246) or foldings (3). Complete with the 5 supplementary vol.
