2 vol., folio: [24 incl. front.]-666-[9], [18 incl. front.]-608-67-[1] pp. (tear without loss in text of f. Cc2 of vol. 2, some spotting throughout).

Contemp. half calf, speckled paper boards, titled spines with raised bands (tail of vol. 2 restored, head and tail of vol. 1 sl. damaged, boards rubbed, corners bumped).

Profusely illustrated ed. of the collected works (1st 1655) of Jacob Cats (1577-1660). Engr. ill.: 2 title-vign., 1 endpiece, title with author's portrait, 2 full-page author's portraits (1 by Michael Natalis after Dubordieu & 1 by M. Moseyn after A. van de Venne), full-page portrait of Anna Maria Schurman by S.V. Lamsweerde, 3 exquisite double-page plates i.a. "Afbeeldinghe des huwelyk onder de gedaente van een fuyk" by A. vander Venne, 3 full-page pl., and +/- 450 emblematical ill. in-text. Including also his 2 last works: "Twee-en-tachtig-jarig leven", an autobiography in verse and "Gedachten op slapeloose nachten". Apart for the literary talent of Jacob Cats, this work gives a tremendous inside view of everyday-life in the 17th c.
