19th-c. mottled calf, gilt-ruled covers, one frame decorated with angular fleurons, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, marbled edges matching endpapers (rubbed, some stains on front cover, joints (part.) split, head and tail missing, corners very bumped, inside front joint strengthened).

Renowned translation of the Metamorphoses by Anguillara (1517-1572) who modernised the text converting the verse form to the "ottava rima". Accompanied by annotations by Giuseppe Orologgi, and "argomenti" within orn. frames and notes by Francesco Turchi. Illustrated with 15 woodcuts in-text in identical decorative frames. Text in 2 col. Printer's mark on title.
