First Dutch edition of Albrecht Dürer's (1471-1528) treatise on the human proportions (1st ed. in Latin: 1528). For this book the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance was highly influenced by thinkers such as Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) and Vitruvius (1st c. BC). Numerous woodcuts illustrate human figures and diagrams, connecting anatomical proportions to aesthetics. Bodies and body parts in all shapes and forms are included to discuss the proper proportions, the adjustment of these proportions by using mathematical rules and the human body in motion. Our copy includes all folding plates (after p. 162, on and after p. 210 and on p. 251).
