Contemp. quarter green shagreen, green cloth over covers and gilt titled: "Offert par le ministre de l'Agriculture", gilt orn. spines with 5 raised bands.
Remarkable work nicely illustrated (complete) with 87 pl. (I-LXXXVII) showing English, Dutch & Danish, Swiss and German, Austrian and French cattle. The plates are based on photographs of Nadar jeune (i.e. Adrien Tournachon, half brother of Félix Nadar), interpreted in pencil by animal artists or sculptors such as Rosa or Isidore Bonheur, Emile Van Marcke, Barye, Troyon, etc. and then reproduced with several engraving techniques such as photo engraving by A. Riffaut, Ch. Nègre, etc. (cfr. introduction p. LXXII-LXXIII). Text volume complete with 5 coloured maps.
