VAN OORT, Edward Daniel
5 vol., folio.
Contemp. half green shagreen with corners (rubbed and faded), cloth on covers, gilt orn. spines with 5 raised bands (faded, some joints starting to split), top edges gilt.
Interesting publication on ornithology in the Netherlands. With 407 coloured plates after M.A. Koekoek. The work was originally published in 46 parts representing figures of all forms of wild birds observed in their natural surroundings in the Netherlands. Since Schlegel issued his work "De vogels van Nederland", no comprehensive atlas of the birds of this area has been published. Each plate contains several figures of birds, the sexes, different ages, and, when necessary, seasonal variations are depicted (Anker).
