Contemp. mottled calf (sl. rubbed, corners lightly bumped), covers with blind-ruled border, gilt orn. spines with 5 raised bands (joints rubbed, sm. def. on some heads & tails), black and red leather title labels, gilt sides, sp. edges, marbl. endpapers. Very good set.

First edition of this Bible with 300 fine engraved full-page pl. by Dambrun, de Launay, Delignon, Petit, Ponce, de Ghendt, a.o. after Marillier and Monsiau (204 for the Old and 96 for the New Testament). Complete with the folding map of the Holy Land in vol. 12, which also contains a chronology, a dictionary of the geography of the Holy Land, tables and a list of subscribers. The many changes in printer's names show the difficulties one must have had to publish this Bible, in instalments, in the French revolutionary era.
