Contemp. half red morocco, paper covers, flat spines with gilt title (rubbed). Large paper copy.
First edition illustrated with 91 splendid plates, of which 2 on double page. Redouté contributed to this work with 54 plates and with the supervision and distribution of the book. The magistrate and botanist L'Héritier (1746-1800) was Superintendent of Parisian Waters and Forests. He instructed Redouté in the dissection and the details of plant anatomy and opened up his private library to him.
