Description du lot

Coloured manuscript map on tissue paper, 50,5 x 75,7 cm, ink and watercolour (some staining, soiling and traces of use, creases).

During the Belgian uprising the government army of the Netherlands held the three most important southern citadels, namely those of Maastricht, Luxembourg and Antwerp. Even after the first French intervention in 1831, which ended the Ten-Day Campaign, William I's army continued to control these three cities. On November 15, 1832, the French army travelled across Belgium to besiege the citadel of Antwerp defended by Dutch troops. The French troops took the citadel, where 4,500 Dutch soldiers had entrenched themselves with a large number of guns, under fire for 24 days from monster mortars. This new tactic from general Haxo proved successful. On December 23, 1832, they forced the Dutch soldiers to surrender. This signed detailed map (Haxo) shows the progress of the battle at the end of November and the beginning of December.
