First edition of this publication on the history of the Invalides. G.-L. Pérau (1700-1767) worked at the Bibliothèque royale and produced many publications on history and freemasonry. In this publication he discusses the architectural achievement of the Invalides and the development of military forces. It was part of a campaign to emphasize the good works of Louis XIV to the people and soldiers of France. Illustrated with 108 etched and engr. pl. by Charles-Nicolas Cochin, A. Herisset, Aveline and Lucas.
