Cont. calf, spine with raised bands (strongly worn, rebacked, edges of boards damaged, stains and cuts on boards).

First edition of the work of the Scottish poet Falconer (ca 1735-ca 1769), author of "The Shipwreck". Ill. with 12 folding engr. by J. Mynde, representing designs, technical details and separate views of masts, sails, yards and rigging. A comprehensive dictionary of technical terms used in the architecture and construction, equipment, furniture, machinery, movements and military operations of ships, incl. a translation of the French sea-terms and phrases, collected from the works of Duhamel, etc. Ref.
