2 vol., folio: [20 incl. engr. title]-129-[1] pp.; 70 pl., [12 incl. engr. title]-183-[2] pp.; 69 pl., all pl. mounted on guards (vol. 1: marg. wormtrack in first ff. and very sm. wormhole throughout, light marg. damp stain on last pl. and text f., sm. marg. tear of Savigliano repaired on verso, sm. clear stain at the bottom of Agliè, fold. edges creased of Thonon and Aosta pl., tear in fold of Aosta, very few spots passim).

Contemp. mottled calf, gilt-decorated covers with central medallion, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, a.e.g. (heads and tails restored, corners sl. bumped, boards sl. rubbed).

First French translation of this abundantly illustrated atlas of the prestigious Northern Italian states of Piedmont and Savoy, originally composed and edited by the Blaeu’s (1st Latin ed. 1682). The engraved titles show the personification of Piedmont and Savoy, respectively engr. by Abraham Blooteling and Gerard Valk, both after Gerard de Lairesse. The first volume, dedicated to Piedmont, contains 5 engraved plates (1 coat of arms of the dukes of Savoy, 1 genealogical table and 3 portraits: Victor Amedée II, Charles Emanuel II and Marie Jeanne de Savoy-Nemours), a map of Piedmont and 64 views of palaces with gardens, public buildings, some monasteries and churches, town plans and maps (large bird-eye view of Turin on 2 sheets). The second volume, dedicated to Savoy, contains a map of Savoy and 68 views and town plans (bird-eye views of Thonon, Aosta, Biella, Mondovi, Andorno and Garessio each on 2 sheets). In total, ill. with 139 beautifully engraved plates, most on double page or folding.
