3 vol. 8vo; 150 (of 156) pl. (pp. 165-166 of vol. II lacking, foxing, tear strengthened in p. 155 of vol. II, marginal dampstains in vol. II and III).
Cont. half black leather, burgundy cloth covers decorated with a gilt fillet on the left, gilt decorated spines on raised bands (small wears).
English translation by A.L. Hillhouse of this work by the botanist and explorer Michaux (1746-1802), first published in French in 1801. Illustrated with 150 hand-coloured plates representing basswood, crab apple, maples, pistacia, American larch, etc. Ref. Nissen, BBI, 1361. - Pritzel 6196 (1859 ed., Philadelphia). - Sabin 48694 ("Of the various editions with the text in English this, notwithstanding some typographical errors, is the best"). Prov.
