Folio: [16, engr. title incl.]-1/144-[6]-263-[10] pp. (quire * bound btw pp. 144-263; foxing, numerous on a few ff., marg. tear strengthened on engr. title, marg. tears with loss of paper repaired on title and portrait, marg. dampstains on 2 ff. of the prelims and on last f., index torn without loss, classif. numb. on t.-p.).
Cont. calf, blind-ruled covers (rebacked, binding a bit worn but firm).
First edition of the topographical and architectural description of Lazio (depicting Alba Longa, Tibur or Tivoli, Hadrian's villa, the villa of Quintilus Varius, the Villa Borghese at Mondragone...). Ills: engr. title by Romeyn de Hooghe, portrait of Clement X, 26 plates (some on double pp. and one fold.), figuring maps and views (the table lists 25 engr. but some copies have 26 or 27 pl.) and 19 large engr. in text (most copies have 20). In our copy, the leaf 2L3 is signed 2S3 and it contains the - sometimes lacking - leaf [2M]1 ("Index & ordo tabularum") bound before the "Index rerum ac materium". Ref.
