After his sojourn in France, he stayed in Rome between 1770-72 where he befriended Joseph-Benoît Suvée. He specialised as a painter and draughtsman of animals, landscapes and architecture. The collection of the Groeningemuseum (Steinmetzkabinet) holds 18 drawings by his hand.
