4to: [12]-60 pp. (f. G3 cut out as explained below; some minor spotting, marginal dampstaining in 1st ff.).
Contemp. limp vellum, flat spine titled in ink, dark edges. Nice copy.
Extremely rare 2nd issue of a collection of short letters to Italian friends by E. Puteanus (1574-1646) and of letters and album inscriptions addressed to him. The 1st issue (BB P-153) was addressed to Honorius Gallius; in the 2nd issue Puteanus replaced the dedication to Gallius by a different one to the Spanish nobleman Juan Fernandez de Velasco and had the prose dedication of the 2nd part to Gallius removed. Part 2 contains letters and album inscriptions to Puteanus by friends from the Low Countries and Italy, e.g. Justus Lipsius (p. 44), J. Scaliger (45), J. Dousa (45-46), P. Pantinus (48-49), Justus Raphelengius (53-54), Philippus Rubens (54) etc. Woodcut arms of dedicatee (J. F. de Velasco) on title.
Ref. BB IV:761:P-154. - Not in BL, BnF, KBR, Limo.
Prov. At bottom of title autograph presentation inscription by Puteanus to "Philippo Massinio", Perugia law professor (1548-1618). - On facing flyleaf long presentation inscription from Massinio ("Lipsii auditoris") to "Constantio Paulutio ... Lipsianae doctrinae cultori ...".
