Bernard Buffet was a well-known Expressionist artist and a member of the anti-abstract art group "L'homme Témoin". He was very devoted to circus life; a subject to which he often returned. The popularity of Buffet's work, and the media attention around his lifestyle, were quite high in the 1950s and 1960s. In recent years there has been renewed interest in the work of Bernard Buffet, with some successful exhibitions in France and worldwide.
