Complete rare first and only French edition describing the voyages around the world by the Antwerp born naval officer Joris van Spilbergen (1568-1620) in the 1st part and by Schouten and Le Maire in the 2nd part. The French edition contains the same copperplates as the Dutch edition, but with pl. 21 not included in most of the copies. The illustrations in the "Miroir" are rich in ethnographic detail, the maps include the Strait of Magellan, Le Maire’s route with his alternative route to the Pacific and the East Indies. The world map shows the route of both Spilbergen and Le Maire and Le Maire’s discoveries along the northern coast of New Guinea.
