4to: [viii]-40 pp., 16 pl. and 1 folding table (marg. dam., fox., folds of pl. with min. dam.).

Contemp. red morocco by P. Lefebvre (nephew of Bozérian), gilt ruled border on cover with motives referring to the First French Empire, gilt flat spine, gilt edges (sl. worn and sl. dam).

A faithful and technical account of the battle of Marengo between the French troops under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Austrian troops on 14 June 1800. The work appeared in various formats: in-plano for the regime's officials, in 4to for the civil servants and opinion leaders and a few thousand copies in 8vo for a wide distribution across the country. Frontispiece (in 3 different versions) depicting the Emperor on the battlefield, by Pauquet after Vernet. Enriched with 13 detailed plates, depicting the troop movements and the intensity of the struggle, of which 6 pairs (rare: pl. both in colour and in black and white) and one black and white image.
