Contemporary Dutch vellum bindings : white ivory vellum decorated with gilt roll-stamps and central medaillon, ribbed spine with gilt roll-stamps, gilt edges, end ribbons (1st vol. : under endband partially detached, 2nd vol. : some stains on upper plate).

First Dutch edition of Blaeu's town atlas of the Netherlands of which only 75 copies are known, including 129 maps of the United Netherlands and 96 maps of the Royal Netherlands. The first volume of our copy shows the features usually characteristizing the fourth issue (Enckhuysen : 4 pp., Medemblik, Zierikzee, Tholen, Kampen, Zwolle : state 2 and Rheinberg : state 3), but has the plates with 4 engravings of Edam and Vianen printed as in the first issue, as well as the running title misprinted "Coeveden".
