Latin manuscript on vellum, c. 19,5 x 13,2 cm, 147 ff. (mod. pencil foliation), ruled writing area, c. 9,5 x 6 cm, 15 ll.

17th-c. gold-tooled leather, covers with gilt ruled border with large corner pieces and central oval religious illustration (Crucifixion), gilt spine on 5 raised bands, a.e.g. (rubbed, head and tail repaired). Excellent well-preserved manuscript.

Illumination: A. 12 Calendar ff. with decorated and illustrated borders showing 24 activities representative of the seasons, with biblical and worldly scenes (a rare example of avoiding the standard Zodiac signs). B. 13 miniatures in borders: Four Evangelists (with a courtly scene in the border), Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Annunciation to the Shepherds, Adoration of the Magi, Presentation of Jesus, Coronation of the Virgin, Crucifixion, Pentecost, David (with fabulous animals in the margin), Requiem Mass, The Virgin and Child (adorated by the female customer [?], though "O intemerata" and "Obsecro te" have masculine pronouns). Probably lacking The Flight to Egypt (between ff. 68-69). Prov. Some old names (146v, 147v). - [Georges Petit].
