Lot description
Hand-coloured lithographs, c. 26,7 x 18,7 cm (image), wove paper, stone signed and titled (few marg. spots, some sl. unevenly browned, 4 with light marg. damp stains, sl. soiled).
Charles d'Aiguebelle is noted for "Homographie [...] Choix de vingt plantes indigènes et coloniales", his single publication. In this work he combined nature printing with the lithography technique, which he called "homographie". It contains 20 hand-coloured lithographic and nature-printed plates by Bernard and d'Aiguebelle after d'Aiguebelle. This lot contains 10 pl. numb. up to 70 which are probably pre-studies before the real publication or a further publication as d'Aiguebelle says (mentioned in lot 71 of Christie's sale, March 17, 1999): "nous donnons ici vingt planches, formant la premire anne d'une collection de cent vingt planches (format jesus in-plano), tant exotiques qu'indigènes. Nous offrons aussi aux amateurs une autre Collection de quatre cent trente-deux plantes (format in-4), et livrables de mois en mois, per cahier de six planches". However, only the 20 pl. are mentionned in Nissen. Lot to discover.
