Rare print on Japan paper. Ensor made this famous etching after his own drawing from 1891 in the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Brussels. It shows the battle of 1302 between the French and Flemish armies. Beneath a sky filled with arabesque clouds, a myriad small, comical figures face each other in battle. In the distance the silhouettes of belfries, mills and churches can be seen. In 1896 Ensor made a lithograph of the same subject, which was published in "La Ligue Artistique" of 1 March 1897.
