Folio: cxxvi [= 124] ff. (some spotting and soiling, sl. browning, minor foxing).

19th-c. brown morocco signed by F. Bedford, covers ruled with blind-st. and gilt borders and gilt corner tools, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, a.e.g., edges with gilt double fillet. Nice copy.

Extr. rare 1st and only copy of this famous epic in the German transl. by Elizabeth of Lorraine-Vaudémont, Countess of Nassau-Saarbrücken (ca. 1395-1456), based on a French chanson de geste "Loher & Maller". Printed in Gothic. Ill. with numerous woodcut initials and 37 (4 almost full-page) woodcuts in-text (25 of them from 2 blocks each). Large woodcut on the title figuring a King with his court. Only 5 copies can be found in public libraries (USTC, VD16).
