TENIERS, David II (after)

Young man with pipe and glass.

David Teniers II, ca. 1632-1690

Etching, 12,0 x 9,4 cm, laid paper, signed in the plate at top left: "D Teniers in. et excd. cum privilegio" (flattened light crease at right, small repair at top right, small crease at bottom left).

Traces of mounting and hinges on verso. Good impression.

Charming genre scene of a young man enjoying a smoke and a drink. A thin line of smoke is finely etched flowing from his mouth. Attributed to Quirin Boel who produced similar plates for Teniers. Not in Hollstein, but impressions in Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum, inv. RP-P-BI-1951) and London (British Museum, inv. Sheepshanks.4802) with the same attribution.
