Mod. half mottled calf, mottled paper covers (corners bumped).
Rare 1st French ed. (1st: 1737) of P. De La Court Van Der Voort's influential reference work on the construction and design of country houses ("buitenplaatsen"), written from his own experience in his country house Berbice (Voorschoten). Its orangery and garden walls influenced later garden history. This work also discusses topics such as the heating of glasshouses or the cultivation of pineapples, lemons, oranges, etc. With 15 large engr. by J. v.d. Spyk, F. v. Bleyswyck, J. Wandelaar and J.C. Philips showing greenhouses, a vegetable garden, citrus fruit, a pineapple, etc. De La Court Van Der Voort was the first European to successfully grow pineapples.
