VIII, occasional pp. slightly browned and pl. sl. yellowed, occ. foxing, light traces of mold on some pl., some marginal tears or holes, rarely with loss of paper and a few repaired or strengthened (pl. 148 vol. II, p. 35 vol. VII, pl. 79 vol. IX), pl. 189 in vol. X loose, marginal wormholes at the end of vol. I and begin. of XIV-XV (repaired)). Good condition (vol. I esp.).

Cont. marbled calf, gilt decorated spines on raised bands with light brown and green leather labels, red and brown sprinkled edges (some wears, corners dulled, front pastedowns & flyleaves renewed in vol. XIV-XV).

First edition of this work on classical archaeology by B. de Montfaucon (1655-1741), Benedictine of the Congregation of Saint-Maur and one of the founders of modern archaeology. Illustrated with 10 vignettes and 5 fleurons on titles, the portrait of J. Audran after N. Largillière, 10 headpieces and 1.396 plates, some on double pages or foldings.
