Rare and interesting 3rd Italian edition with corrected copperplates of the 1582 French Plantin edition. This copy is entirely old hand-coloured (contemp.?). Engr. ill.: Allegorical frontispiece "Belgia" (1st st.). - Engr. title (2nd st.) - Coat of arms of the 17 provinces (*2v). - Allegorical representation of arts and sciences (1st st.). - Coat of arms of Guicciardini. - 78 maps, plans and views, incl. the plan of Antwerp with the newly repaired ramparts of 1587 (Antwerpen 3-2) after their destruction due to the city's capitulation in 1585. Guicciardini provided this edition with text adjustments to show how the Dutch Revolt changed the country. Similar adjustments are the coat of arms of Philip II (version 2) pasted on (ff. *2v), and his portrait printed within an allegorical representation of arts and sciences.
Ref. Guicciardini Illustratus 8. - Tiele 424. - Touwaide 81/93. - Voet 1280.
Prov. "Bartolomeo Cusano" (ms. ownership's entry). Interesting is the fact the owner mentions the price he payed in 1621 to the bookseller in Parma.
