[Naples], Majolino, [1860]

Oblong 4to: 10 (of 25) mounted lithographs, hand-coloured with gouache (manuscript notes in ink).

Original red cloth, gilt title (used, spine broken).

Album with vividly coloured still lives and hunting scenes. Also present are the fresco with the Cupid Seller from the wall of the luxurious Villa di Arianna at Stabiae and the mosaic with the caption Cave Canem from the House of the Tragic Poet in Pompeii. There had been much progress in exploration when the French ruled over Italy from 1806 to 1815, but the House of the Tragic Poet was discovered only in 1824.
