Lot description
Leipzig, (E. Vögelin), 1566
8vo: [20]-423 [= 424]-[1 bl.-18] pp. (sm. tear to upper margin touching the text on pp. 313-316, some soiling and spotting, sl. browning, light waterstaining in margin of last ff., sm. hole on last f. with a few letters losses).
17th-c. overl. vellum (some stains).
First edition and first state of one of the most important biographies of Melanchthon. Camerarius (1500-1574), who was a close acquaintance of Melanchthon and helped him to draw up the famous Augsburg Confession, reviewed a large amount of personal correspondence for his book, a fact which makes this work a valuable source even up to now. Contains on fol. A2r the catchword "stißi"; the variant "stißimum" is described as the second state of this edition.
