Lot description

Madrid, 20th July 1744

Folio: [30] ff., on vellum, in Spanish, black and red inks, aut. sign. of the author and countersign. of officers of arms, 2 paper seals, one of which in golden embossed paper (sm. worm galleries on the 2 last ff., very occ. sm. stains).

Contemp. roan, large gilt frame made with roll and sm. tools on the boards, two silk ribbons (one green and one gold) on each side, gilt spine with raised bands, marbled paper doublures (sl. rubbed). Very good condition.

Original manuscript made by a king of arms and knight of the "Orden de Santiago" ("Order of Santiago"), also known as the Order of St. James of the Sword (Patron Saint of Spain), a religious and military order founded in the 12th century. He certifies the titles of nobility of a Catalan family. Beautifully ill. with 2 front. richly ornated with watercolours and protected with a yellow silk leaf, the first with the family's great coat of arms, the second with the author's name and armorial stamp in a large and spectacular cartouche. The document is countersigned by don Diego de Olidem, Secretary of the King and of the City Council (Ayutamento) of Madrid.
